Episode 08: The Tsavo Maneaters Part 1 - Don’t Hug the Wildlife
Tuesday Apr 04, 2023
Tuesday Apr 04, 2023
Between March and December 1898, two male lions went on a killing spree, slaughtering dozens of railroad workers in Kenya. The maneless male lions tore through the camp’s mobile tents and dragged the helpless workers out into the bush, where they devoured them. The severity of these attacks completely halted work on the rail line. The workers called the lions demons, devils or vengeful spirits and lived in fear of their bloodthirsty savagery until they were finally killed by British Army Colonel John Henry Patterson. To this day, they remain one of the most memorable examples of the push and pull of human technological expansion and the bestial ferocity of nature.

I work in film and tv, both behind the camera and in the editing room. I’ve been a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians for over 20 years. Since childhood, I’ve been obsessed with cryptids, the paranormal and conspiracy theories. I believe that everything deserves to be explored, and nothing exists in a vacuum. Every belief we hold, every experience we have and every story we tell is influenced by our background, our situation and the world around us.
Favorite horror movies:
Hereditary, Burnt Offerings, His House, Creature from the Black Lagoon, anything Godzilla, The Ritual, Lake Mungo, Underwater, Amityville Horror (1979), Alien, Trollhunter
Favorite horror books/stories:
The Shining, Pickman’s Model, The Yellow Wallpaper, Was it a Dream?, A Headful of Ghosts, the Night Watch series, Crouch End, Something is Killing the Children
If I was a cryptid I’d be:
Either a cadborosaurus, so I’d be able to swim around the ocean, or Mokele-Mbembe because dinosaurs are awesome
Non-paranormal pursuits:
Woodworking, flyfishing, giving treats to cats

As an introvert that thrives on deep, meaningful conversation, I guess I’m a walking paradox. I grew up in a creaky old farmhouse in Upstate New York where I played with frogs and made all the adults call me Macgyver. When I was a kid, I saw something that looked like a sasquatch run through the swamp behind my house. I’m fascinated by what we think we see and what beliefs we hang on to, even as more information comes to us. Let’s get into it.
Favorite horror movies/TV shows:
Parasite, Paranormal Activity, One Cut of the Dead, Hush, Creep, Midnight Mass, Train to Busan, Nope, Midsommar
Favorite horror books/stories:
The Terror, House of Leaves
If I was a cryptid, I’d be:
Bigfoot because you’re always warm, you’re an apex predator, and you live alone in the woods away from people. What more could you ask for??
Non-paranormal pursuits:
Martial arts, knitting/crochet, exploring nature, writing
Quixote and Zuri
Hello, we are Quixote and Zuri. Call us Yotes and Zur. We like when humans podcast and also cryptids.
Favorite horror movies/TV shows:
Midnight Club, Barbarian
Favorite horror books/stories:
Sorry can't read
If was cryptid, we be:
Probably the Beast of Exmoor cause kitty
Non-paranormal pursuits:
Watching birds, chasing paper balls, sitting in laps
