The small town of Elkhorn, Wisconsin holds a wild secret. According to local legend, a werewolf stalks their back roads, terrorizing motorists and feeding on the carcasses of dead animals. This creature, described as a massive, bipedal humanoid with a dog’s head, has been linked to all kinds of weirdness, from Satanic cults to religious beliefs to native Sasquatch populations. Spawning an entire subset of research, these “dogmen” are the disgraced nephew of cryptozoology: a story that just won’t die, and one which many think weakens their entire stance on unknown animals.

A riot breaks out, vampire hunters Sean Manchester and David Farrant clash in a duel to see who will be the first to slay the beast, and London police struggle to contain the riots. And, as the would-be slayers' bitter rivalry stretches across decades, the truth of the Highgate Vampire slowly comes into focus.
